MASSEY — Massey Aerodrome was used as the landing zone to transfer an injured man from an ambulance into a Maryland State Police helicopter just before 3 p.m. Saturday, April 11.
An eyewitness reported that the Community Fire Company of Millington arrived on the scene first to secure the airfield and coordinate the transfer. The Galena Volunteer Fire Company ambulance and Maryland State Police helicopter Trooper 1 [based at Martin State Airport in Middle River] arrived almost simultaneously about 20 minutes later.
The patient, identified only as an adult male, was transported by ambulance from Black Bottom Road, Golts, where he fell off a roof and suffered a traumatic injury to his arm, according to local law enforcement.
Black Bottom Road is about 2.5 miles from the Massey airfield.
The man was subsequently airlifted to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. Information on his condition was not readily available.
“Massey Aerodrome is proud to be able to be of service to emergency responders,” a spokesperson for Massey Aerodrome told The Evening Enterprise.
