CHESTERTOWN — September is Suicide Prevention Month.
There is a new Suicide and Crisis Lifeline; just dial 988.
The National Alliance on Mental Illness of Kent and Queen Anne’s Counties extends an invitation to members of the community to reach out for support and help. You can call the NAMI-MD help line at 410-884-8691.
In addition to dialing 988, consider contacting Eastern Shore Mobile Crisis. Click on the link for details, https://santeeasternshore.org/county/kent-county/.
The National Alliance on Mental Illness is a grassroots organization that operates at a national, state and local level. Local affiliates offer free peer support, education and outreach programs, and engage mental health advocates in their community.
NAMI KQA is continuing to offer its family support group program of peer-led groups for family members, caregivers and loved ones of individuals living with mental illness. There is no cost, and you can participate from the comfort and safety of your own home.
“Support group members gain insight from the challenges and successes of other group members facing similar circumstances,” a news release states.
NAMI offers its family support program online on the second and fourth Thursday of the month, from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
To learn more about the family support group, call 443-480-0565 or email namikentandqueenannes@gmail.com.
