WORTON — On Thursday, the Trojans head to Southern of Anne Arundel for the Class 1A East Region I tournament having played some of their best field hockey of the season.
Kent County scored a 2-1 come-from-behind victory at Bo Manor on Oct. 11, halting a lengthy losing streak, and followed that up on Oct. 15 with a valiant effort against highly regarded Kent Island in the final home game of 2024.
In the latter, McKenna Messick gave the locals an early 1-0 lead that held up into the fourth quarter when the Buccaneers (8-3-1) scored three unanswered goals to avoid an upset.
With the score tied at 1-all, Kent County’s freshman keeper Abigail Strayer made a stick safe on a penalty stroke.
The Bucs ultimately wore down the youthful Trojans, who have six freshmen on their 14-player roster.
Kent County closed out the regular season with a 2-0 loss at North Caroline on Oct. 17.
Southern (6-6) is the No. 1 seed in the 1A East Region I and hosts No. 4 seed Kent County, while Bo Manor (5-6) is the No. 2 seed and will host Elkton (3-7) in the other semifinal.
The region championship is Tuesday, Oct. 29.
