Pirates and wenches to make landfall in Rock Hall

ROCK HALL — Pirates and Wenches Weekend is poised to celebrate its 19th anniversary here beginning Friday, Aug. 7.

“Come by land or come by sea to the Town of Rock Hall on the Isle of Delmarva located on the Upper Chesapeake Bay for a town-wide family event that you’ll never forget!” a news release states.

Through Sunday, Aug. 9 the town of Rock Hall will be in the pirate spirit as merchants, re-enactors, musicians and other performers take you to the “golden age of piracy on the high seas.”

Main Street will be filled with vendors, music, pirate performers, and plenty of grub and grog.

Public parking and transportation will make getting around safe and worry free.

Start the weekend on Friday with a rum tasting at Haven Harbour South [5 to 8 p.m.] and sea shanty sing-along at American Legion Post 228 [7 to 11 p.m.].

Visitors are encouraged to dine at any of Rock Hall’s award-winning restaurants, settle in and enjoy the night’s live entertainment offered by some of the local watering holes, or just relax under the stars.

The big draws on Saturday, Aug. 8 include a kids treasure dig at the Ferry Park public beach at 10 a.m.; decorated dinghy parade at 11 a.m. and pirate poker run from noon to 2 p.m.; beach party with live music from noon to 4 p.m.; and Buccaneers Ball from 7 to 11 p.m. at Waterman’s Crab House.

Be sure to stick around for more music and fun on Sunday on Main Street.

Raffle tickets for three chances to win lots of local treasure can be purchased at the sea shanty sing-along on Friday, the beach party on Saturday, on Main Street on Saturday and the Buccaneers Ball on Saturday night. Proceeds go back to support the community and local nonprofits.

Official Pirates and Wenches Weekend souvenir merchandise will be available for purchase throughout the weekend — at the sea shanty sing-along, on Main Street and the beach party.

There will be lots of pirate performers offering up music and mayhem during the weekend.

Youngsters will find much to do with entertainment, games, a treasure hunt, pirate encampment and more.
