Input sought on possible National Heritage Area on the Shore

CHESTERTOWN — The Stories of the Chesapeake Heritage Area is hosting two community conversations about the feasibility study for a National Heritage Area centered on Stories of the Chesapeake Heritage Area extending from the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal (C&D Canal) to and including Dorchester County.

This is an opportunity to learn more about National Heritage Areas and the feasibility study process, to ask questions and “to share your ideas for the themes and priorities for this exciting national recognition for our region,” a news release states.

National Heritage Areas are places where historic, cultural and natural resources combine to form cohesive, nationally important landscapes.

Unlike national parks, National Heritage Areas are large lived-in landscapes. They collaborate with communities to determine how to make heritage relevant to local interests and needs.

The dates and locales for the community meetings are:

• 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30 at the Eastern Shore Higher Education Center of Chesapeake College, 1000 College Circle, Wye Mills. Heavy hors d’oeuvres will be served.

• 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 31 at the Kent Cultural Alliance, 101 Spring St., Chestertown.
