Radcliffe Creek School begins search for next head of school

CHESTERTOWN — Radcliffe Creek School is searching for its next head of school, with the successful candidate to begin July 1, 2025.

RCS, which opened in the fall of 1996, is a K-8 private school in Chestertown that focuses on students with learning differences.

Betsy Duff, president of the school’s board of trustees, is chair of the search committee, which is comprised of current and former trustees.

The board has engaged Kirk Duncan, who has more than 40 years of experience as a teacher, coach and administrator in independent schools, to assist in identifying and recruiting candidates.

Following a survey distributed to the school community, key traits sought in the next head of school were identified.

According to a news release, the qualities include a candidate who is strategic minded, caring and approachable; firm yet fair; a collaborative and decisive decision-maker; an inspiring communicator; an effective fundraiser; and experienced in serving students who learn differently.

Members of the school’s community will have opportunities to provide input throughout the search process, “ensuring the selected candidate aligns with the aspirations and expectations of the Radcliffe Creek community,” the news release states.

Last October, the board of trustees announced that it had extended the contract of Head of School Peter Thayer through June 2025.

He was appointed to an interim position in July 2022.
