School board candidates speak at LWV forum

CHESTERTOWN — The four candidates seeking two open seats on the Kent County Board of Education had the opportunity to state their platforms last week at a forum hosted by the Kent County League of Women Voters.

Laura McKenzie, John Queen, Piers Heriz-Smith and incumbent Francoise Sullivan sat side by side at a long table in the front of a meeting room at the Presbyterian Church of Chestertown, which was the locale for the Oct. 22  forum.

Sam Shoge was the moderator.

Each candidate had two minutes to make introductory remarks; two minutes to answer each of two questions prepared by the LWV that they had received ahead of the forum; and two minutes to answer questions from the audience.

The forum ended with closing statements from each candidate.

The school board election is nonpartisan.

The term is four years.

Board President Joe Goetz is not seeking re-election.

Trish McGee, owner and publisher of The Evening Enterprise, is an elected member of the Kent County Board of Education.
