School is just around the corner

GALENA — Students and their parents are lined up as far as the eye can see for the back-to-school open house Thursday, Aug. 21 at Galena Elementary School.

All five of Kent County’s public schools held open houses on Thursday, giving parents/guardians, students and teachers an opportunity to meet before the bell rings for a new school year on Monday, Aug. 25.

Kent County Public Schools has a staggered start to the school year, as printed below.

• Elementary schools: first through fifth grades on Monday, Aug. 25; pre-kindergarten and kindergarten on Wednesday, Aug. 27.

• Kent County Middle School: sixth grade on Monday, Aug. 25; seventh and eighth grades on Tuesday, Aug. 26.

• Kent County High School: ninth grade on Monday, Aug. 25; 10th through 12th grades on Tuesday, Aug. 26.

All schools and offices will be closed Friday, Aug. 29 through Monday, Sept. 1 for the long Labor Day weekend.

Everyone will be back in school Tuesday, Sept. 2.

Kent County Middle School and Kent County High School begin their school day with students arriving at 7:25 a.m. and dismissal at 2:25 p.m. 

The doors at the three elementary schools — in Chestertown, Galena and Rock Hall — open at 8:35 a.m. and dismissal begins at 3:25 p.m.
