WORTON — Kent County High School will hold its only home track and field meet of the outdoor season Thursday, April 9. Seniors will be recognized in a formal ceremony at 3:30 p.m., with the competition to get underway at about 4 p.m.
The Trojans have had two meets — March 24 at Kent Island High School to open the season and March 28 at the Cambridge Classic when junior Janey Depp broke the 28-year-old school record in the 1600 meters.
Coaches Lakesha Hoxter and Steve Wheeler have a robust roster of 50-plus — so large, in fact, that there is a “travel team” because not everyone can fit on a standard full-size school bus.
In the season opener March 24, Depp, Rah ‘Zir Wilson, RJ Peterson and Joey Homyack were individual winners.
Depp had the best day for the Trojans, heading the 1600 and 3200 meters, placing second in the 800 meters and anchoring the second-place 4×800-meter relay that included Reese Strong, Delilah Markovic and Devynn Wiggins.
On the boys side, Wilson tied for first in the 100 meters, won the high jump and collaborated with Peterson, Bennett Harris and Dylan Hurtt on the 4×100-meter relay that placed fourth.
Results are printed here. Top 10 place-finishes are noted. This was a four-school meet — KCHS, Queen Anne’s, Cambridge-South Dorchester and host Kent Island.
