ROCK HALL — A 38-year-old Rock Hall man is being held without bail in the Kent County Detention Center on charges that include first- and second-degree assault.
Stephen Christian Barbour is accused of stabbing two men on Friday night, Sept. 6 in an apartment complex on Brittany Bay Drive in Rock Hall.
One of the victims, age 40, was transported by ambulance to the hospital in Chestertown, where he was treated and released.
The other victim, age 35, was airlifted to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he is being treated for multiple stab wounds to his torso. According to the Kent County Sheriff’s Office, the man was listed in stable condition on Wednesday, Sept. 11.
KCSO deputies responded to the 300 building of the Brittany Bay apartments at about 10:45 p.m. Friday for a reported stabbing.
Barbour was located moments later in an apartment in the building, according to charging documents.
During separate initial interviews, prior to being transported to the hospital, the victims told the responding police officers that they had been stabbed by Barbour.
During the investigation at the scene and subsequent witness interviews, it was determined that a “disturbance” had occurred involving Barbour, a woman identified as his live-in girlfriend and a female neighbor.
The neighbor is romantically involved with one of the victims, according to charging documents.
The disturbance allegedly progressed to a physical altercation involving the two women, which led into the doorway of the apartment shared by Barbour and his girlfriend.
It is alleged that the two stabbing victims and Barbour all subsequently became involved in the fight, and that Barbour ultimately stabbed both men, according to charging documents.
Evidence gathered at the scene corroborated the witness accounts.
According to charging documents, when Barbour was apprehended, bloody clothes belonging to him were found discarded in the room where he was located.
Barbour has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Oct. 2 in the District Court for Kent County. At that time a judge will determine if there is probable cause to believe that he committed the offenses.
Barbour is charged with two counts each of first-degree assault, second-degree assault and reckless endangerment.
