Sherrie Hill earns ‘Everyday Hero’ tribute for nursing care

CHESTERTOWN — Sherrie Hill, RN, MSN, CSHFN, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation clinical coordinator at the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Chestertown, was recently honored as an “Everyday Hero.”

Mary Carlisle, a cardiopulmonary rehabilitation patient, nominated Hill for the knowledgeable and accessible care she provides at the hospital.

“Sherrie Hill is an Everyday Hero in my book,” Carlisle wrote in her nomination letter. “I first attended the Pulmonary Rehab clinic in 2019 as a monitored patient and have continued twice a week since then. I feel very fortunate to have this resource available to me. Sherrie has helped me several times when I was having trouble with my blood pressure. I am very grateful to Sherrie and all of the nurses that work with me.”

The Everyday Hero program is an opportunity for patients to honor and thank team members for excellent care through a donation to UM Chester River Health Foundation, the fundraising arm of UM Shore Medical Center at Chestertown.

UM Shore Medical Center at Chestertown is part of the University of Maryland Shore Regional Health network, which is a member organization of the University of Maryland Medical System.

Maryann Ruehrmund, executive director and chief development officer of UM Chester River Health Foundation, said any team member can be a hero.

“Everyday Heroes could include environmental services team members who take extra care while cleaning a room, Emergency Department physicians who save lives, or an exceptionally compassionate volunteer who transports a patient by wheelchair,” Ruehrmund said in a news release.

Patients and their families may make a donation and pay tribute to a team member or an entire department.

Everyday Hero displays and donation envelopes are located throughout the hospital.

Honorees are presented with an “Everyday Hero” lapel pin and hand-written notes of appreciation from the donor as well as their manager.
