HAVERFORD, Pa. — There’s still plenty of soccer to be played, but the Shore ladies currently are relevant in any discussion about the Centennial Conference tournament that will kick off Nov. 5.
On Sunday, they booted their hosts from Haverford, 2-0, for the program’s first-ever win there.
It’s been a lopsided series with WC going 2-21-3 dating to 1998.
With the win on Sunday, Washington improved to 2-2-1 in the Centennial, sixth in the 11-school conference, and 6-2-5 overall.
The locals already have tied their win total of 2023, with five matches remaining in the regular season.
Haverford absorbed its first conference loss after starting Centennial play with three wins and a tie.
Reagan Longridge’s goal in the 15th minute gave Washington a 1-0 lead, and held up to be the game-winner.
Senior Kayla Streett was credited with the assist. Her crossing pass from the right side sailed over the head of Haverford keeper Lily Buyer (one save) and landed at the feet of classmate Longridge, who put the ball into an empty net from about seven yards out.
Sophomore Kaileigh Brady netted the insurance goal in the 51st minute, gathering a loose ball and blasting a shot from about 20 yards out that glanced off the left post and into the back of the net.
She leads the team with five goals and 11 points.
Haverford (9-3-1, 3-1-1 CC) would outshoot Washington, 4-2, the rest of the way with two shots on frame.
Shore sophomore Olivia Allen made a save on Ella Manning’s header in the 56th minute and denied Olivia Daulerio in the 60th minute to preserve the shutout.
Allen finished with five saves to offset the Fords’ 11-8 advantage in shots.
NEXT UP: Washington will host No. 24-ranked McDaniel (8-2-2, 4-0-1 CC) on Wednesday, Oct. 16. The match starts at 4 p.m.
