Shore senior Philiposian is DIII’s relief pitcher of the week

CHESTERTOWN — Washington College’s Elias Philiposian, a senior right-hander from Woolwich Township, New Jersey, on Wednesday, April 8 was named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week for Week 8 [March 30-April 5] as the team’s relief pitcher.

He was named the Centennial Conference Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday.

Philiposian went 1-0 with a save and an ERA of 0.00 in 4 2/3 hitless innings in two appearances during the week.

In the 11-10 victory over visiting McDaniel on March 31, he recorded the final five outs to pick up the save.

Philiposian [two strikeouts, no walks] got the win Saturday, April 4 in the nightcap of a twin bill at home against Dickinson, pitching three hitless innings in the 17-16, 10-inning game. He pitched to 10 batters, one over the minimum.

The Shoremen ran their win streak to three games in a row, all against Centennial Conference rivals, with Tuesday’s 13-3 victory at Swarthmore.

They are 17-12 overall and 5-2 in the CC, bettering last year’s record in conference play.

Washington returns home to Athey Park on Friday for the second game of the two-game series with Swarthmore [18-8, 3-4 CC]. The first pitch is at 3:30 p.m.
