SUDLERSVILLE — Washington College sophomore Trice Moore, a graduate of Kent County High School, broke a personal-best 97 targets out of 100 in the 12-gauge skeet event to win D Class and earn the title of collegiate champion at the Sudlersville Skeet Club’s 79th Delmarva Open last month.
This is one of the oldest skeet tournaments in the country held at a singular club starting in 1938.
Over the years, world class-caliber and hall of fame shooters have competed at the Delmarva Open.
The Sudlersville Skeet Club is the Shoremen’s home range.
According to a news release, all WCTS (Washington College Trap and Skeet) athletes become certified National Skeet Shooting Association officials in their first year and give back to their home range by serving as referees for their registered events.
WCTS competed in the 12-gauge skeet event on Sept. 19. The Shore shooters, led by Moore, boasted multiple high place-finishes while also setting new personal records.
MJ Rosenstiel (97 of 100) was the collegiate runner-up to classmate Moore and placed second in A Class.
Senior Colin Krug (91 of 100) placed third in E Class and the collegiate division, while establishing a new personal best.
Outside of the collegiate division, sophomore Gracie Heintzelman broke a personal best of 88 targets as the runner-up in the Ladies class.
Moore also competed in doubles and the 20-gauge skeet event during the Sept. 19-21 weekend. He broke 92 of 100 targets, a personal best, while also being crowned the collegiate champion and winning C Class.
Individually in the 20-gauge event, Moore was the collegiate champion and placed second in C Class.
Also worth noting: freshmen Jeffrey Paes broke 81 of 100 targets and David Daniels of Golts, a 2025 Kent County High School graduate, broke 87 targets. Each established a personal best.
NEXT UP: Washington will host the Battle of the Bay at the Sudlersville Skeet Club on Sunday, Oct. 5.

GLENN DALE — On Saturday, Sept. 6 at Prince George’s County Trap and Skeet Center, Washington competed in the Maryland State Skeet Championship, a non-collegiate National Skeet Shooting Association event open to all active NSSA members.
The Shoremen participated in the 12-gauge skeet event, which is referred to as American Skeet by ACUI/SCTP, the governing body of collegiate shooting.
Two WCTS squads were separated over two rotations for the 100-target event.
The first squad began shortly after arriving and the second squad followed about an hour and a half later.
Bright sun and light wind made the targets easy to see.
Squad one was led by junior Max McNulty, who broke 90 targets, and senior captain Colin Krug, who broke 88 targets.
As soon as the first squad finished, the second squad took to the same field. Sophomore Marcus Rosenstiel had the high score of 95 for the Shoremen, followed by Trice Moore with 91 and senior captain Chris Johnson, who broke 84 of 100 targets. A team score would have been calculated at 449/500.
The afternoon brought storms that postponed and eventually canceled the remainder of the day’s events, including shoot-offs to determine winners.
The Maryland Skeet Shooting Association moved all shoot-offs to Sunday, Sept. 7, which precluded WCTS athletes from participating because they were committed to the Marvin B. Coppage Memorial Trapshoot at the Kent County Gun Club, Chestertown.
Nonetheless, Moore was crowned Maryland D Class champion and collegiate champion.
Krug, who was unable to attend his shoot-off, finished third in E Class and second in the collegiate division.
Johnson completed Washington’s 1-2-3 sweep in the collegiate division.
“Washington College Trap and Skeet would like to thank the staff of Prince George’s County Trap and Skeet Center for their hospitality as they are always welcoming to the team during their registered events. We would also like to thank the Maryland State Skeet Shooting Association for allowing us to participate in the event,” a news release states.
