Washington rallies twice for tie against Stockton

CHESTERTOWN — Freshman midfielder Stefanos Georgiou’s man-down goal in the 83rd minute leveled the score for a second time, and host Washington went on to salvage a 2-2 draw after trailing Stockton by a goal in each half Sept. 11.

The Shoremen, whose only loss is 1-0 in the season opener at Lebanon Valley, settled for their third tie in their last four matches.

Washington is 2-1-3 on the season, all against non-conference opponents, heading into tonight’s (7 o’clock) home contest against King’s.

Last week against Stockton, the visiting side took a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute on Ernst Louisius’ shot from about 8 yards out that nestled into the lower right corner.

Washington evened the score in the 50th minute when sophomore midfielder Tshazi Kamau converted a penalty kick that was awarded when Katim Njie was taken down in the box.

The Ospreys (1-3-2) regained the lead in the 61st minute on a goal in transition.

Washington, now playing shorthanded due to a red card issued in the 81st minute, came back again to deadlock in the 83rd minute when Georgiou headed in Kamau’s free kick.

The locals finished with a 19-10 advantage in shots, but the margin in shots on frame was only 6-5.

Cole White (three saves) went the full 90 minutes in net for the winners. He has started the last five matches for injured fifth-year senior Anthony Pinto, the Shoremen’s two-time reigning team MVP.

Washington’s two wins are by shutout, on the road — 3-0 against Elizabethtown and 1-0 against Salisbury.

In the Salisbury match Sept. 8, on day two of the Seahawk Classic at St. Mary’s College of Maryland, Kent County High School graduate Martin Parrish ’24 came off the bench to play 38 minutes for the Sea Gulls.

All told, Parrish has logged 212 minutes for 3-2-1 Salisbury. He has appeared in all six matches, with one start.

Meantime, another KCHS graduate, fifth-year senior Mayowa Taiwo, has appeared in all six matches with three starts for Washington. He is a team captain.
