Summer reading challenge: As long as it has words, it counts

CHESTERTOWN — Kent County Public Library’s summer offerings include a reading challenge for all ages, from infants to adults and those in between, as well as weekly programs and plenty of opportunities to win prizes and create connections.

When you join a reading challenge, you choose what you read — books, magazines, newspapers, audiobooks, graphic novels. As long as it has words, it counts.

The more reading minutes you log, the more chances you have to win prizes, including the top reader prize for each age category.

All of your reading minutes also count toward KCPL’s collaborative reading goal.

In 2023, Kent County Public Library’s summer reading goal was 850,000 minutes.

According to a news release, the response was fantastic. Almost 800 readers of all ages participated, collectively logging 911,021 minutes.

“This year we’re taking an ambitious, adventurous leap to seven figures,” the news release states.

The collaborative goal for KCPL’s 2024 summer reading community is to log 1 million minutes.

You can start now. Register at kentcountylibrary.beanstack.org or in-person at any KCPL location.

As soon as you are registered, you can begin logging your reading minutes.
