CHESTERTOWN — Kent County Public Schools Superintendent Mary McComas, Ed.D., is the invited speaker to the August meeting of the Democratic Club of Kent County. She will talk about the challenges facing Kent County schools, the school system’s five-year strategic plan and the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future.
The meeting, which is open to the public, will be held on Thursday, Aug. 21 at the Presbyterian Church of Chestertown, 905 Gateway Drive.
Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., with a brief business meeting conducted by the club at 6:45 p.m.
The program will start at 7 p.m. and end no later than 8:30 p.m.

The construction of a new consolidated middle school in Chestertown is a key component of KCPS’ strategic plan for 2025-29. Other priorities include academic growth and community engagement.
KCPS is the smallest school system in Maryland with a total of about 1,690 students in three elementary schools, one middle school and one high school.
McComas has been the superintendent since July 1, 2024. She has nearly three decades of experience in public education, having started as a social studies teacher with Harford County Public Schools.
She rose through the administrative ranks in school-level and systemwide leadership roles, including serving as the chief academic officer for Baltimore County Public Schools.
She also served in the U.S. Army Reserves, attaining the rank of company commander, captain.
McComas has a doctoral degree in education from Wilmington University, a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Loyola University Maryland and a bachelor’s degree in history from Loyola University,
