Team effort key for Trojans’ sweep in varsity volleyball

ST. MICHAELS — Kent County High School varsity volleyball swept host St. Michaels on Sept. 10 for its second win of the young season.

Set scores were 25-8, 25-7 and 25-12.

“The girls played to their potential,” coach Michelle Phillips said.

While noting that “everyone contributed to the win,” Phillips gave shout-outs to Brooke Starke as an attacker; Brenna Thorpe for her play at the net; and libero Marie Parrish, defensive specialist Delilah Masse and Eden Johnson off the bench for their defensive play.

Zadalynn Spitell and Aryonna Wesley ran the offense and “our hitters put the ball down,” Phillips told The Evening Enterprise.

Phillips said unforced errors remain an area of concern, “but things are improving overall. I am really excited about the possibilities this team could have.”
