CHESTERTOWN — Employees of Electec Election Services Inc., the New Jersey-based firm that the Town of Chestertown hired to oversee its Tuesday, Nov. 4 election, gather up the paper ballots from the voting machine at the Chestertown firehouse after the polls there closed at 8 p.m.
All ballots and data were turned over to the town.
“We will keep those ballots for 5-7 years, whatever the state law requires,” Town Clerk Lynda Thomas told The Evening Enterprise in an email Thursday, Nov. 6.
Thomas and Board of Supervisors of Election Chairman Bob Ortiz certified the election on Nov. 5 after all mail-in ballots had been counted.
Meghan Efland was the top vote-getter in a three-candidate race for mayor and incumbent Sheila Austrian won the race for the First Ward council seat.

“Once I get the data back from Electec, it will all be submitted to the Kent County Election Board to be recorded,” Thomas said in the email.
Thomas will submit an official report to Mayor David Foster to be read at the next mayor and council meeting, Nov. 17.
