Ticknor, 13, qualifies for Junior Gold Nationals for 3rd year in a row

PALMYRA, Pa. — Thirteen-year-old bowler Abigail Ticknor of Millington has qualified for the Junior Gold National Championships for the third year in a row. Ticknor earned her spot at the 2027 Junior Gold Championships by finishing third in U14 [second in the division among bowlers not yet qualified] on Sept. 13 in a girls-only Junior Gold Qualifier hosted by Smith Squared Bowling at Palmyra Bowling Center in Palmyra, Pennsylvania. She totaled 682 pins over five games on an oil pattern used during the finals of the 2026 Junior Gold Championships. The Junior Gold Championships bring together the top youth bowlers from around the country each summer to compete in difficult sport oil patterns in U12, U14, U16 and U18 divisions for boys and girls. The 2027 Junior Gold Championships will be held in and around Indianapolis on July 10-17. In late July, Ticknor switched from a conventional grip bowling style to the fingertip grip used by most competitive bowlers. She made her Junior Gold Championships debut as a U12 bowler in Green Bay, Wisconsin in 2025, and competed for the first time in U14 this past July in Minneapolis. An eighth grader at Kent County Middle School, Ticknor bowls in the varsity division of the Doverama Youth League in Dover, Delaware.
