Ticknor qualifies for bowling nationals on 1st try

MILFORD, Del. — Tenpin bowler Abigail Ticknor of Millington has qualified for the 2025 Junior Gold Championships in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

The event brings together qualified youth bowlers from across the country each summer for national championships for boys and girls in U12, U15 and U18 divisions.

Ticknor, 11, qualified by finishing third in a combined U12 boys and U12 girls category at the first Delaware State Junior Gold Qualifier of the season Sunday, Sept. 22 at Milford Bowling Lanes.

She finished with a 773 total score across six games (no handicap) on a challenging “Dead Man’s Curve” oil pattern to secure the third and final national qualifying spot.

Ticknor’s individual game scores were 108, 136, 137, 136, 130 and 126.

Because there were only three girls entered in U12, the boys and girls divisions were combined with a total of three qualifying spots awarded among the 12 bowlers entered in the age division.

Connor Kennedy won the division with a score of 927, followed by Kayelle Belvin with a score of 818.

Kennedy will bowl in U12 boys at the Junior Gold Championships (July 11-19).

Belvin and Ticknor, both of whom bowl in the Doverama Youth League in Dover, Delaware, will bowl in U12 girls.

A sixth grader at Kent County Middle School, Ticknor is in her first year bowling in the varsity division at Doverama after bowling for seven years at Mid-County Lanes in Middletown, Delaware.
