Trojan Stadium is new locale for Sneaker Creeper kids races

WORTON — Young runners will be lacing up their sneakers — or Velcroing them — later this month for the 34th edition of the Sneaker Creeper.

The series of fun children’s races will help kick off the Tea Party Festival weekend starting at 5:30 p.m. Friday, May 24. The event will be held rain or shine.

There is a change in location this year — the track at Kent County High School’s Trojan Stadium (25301 Lambs Meadow Road in Worton) because the track at Washington College’s Roy Kirby Jr. Stadium is being resurfaced.

The cost is $15 if you sign up ahead of time, and $20 on the day of the event.

Checks should be made payable to HHGES PTA-Sneaker Creeper. Or, you can register online at

Proceeds benefit H.H. Garnet Elementary School in Chestertown. Funds are used to support school events, assemblies and extracurricular activities through the PTA.

You must register by Friday, May 10 in order to receive a commemorative Sneaker Creeper T-shirt.

For more information, call Garnet Elementary School at 410-778-6890.

Sneaker Creeper races are broken down by age group and distances. They are open to children ages 2 to 11 with distances ranging from 25 yards for the youngest racers up to a mile for the oldest participants.

Participants who register ahead of time can pick up their race packet from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 23 at Washington College’s Roy Kirby Jr. Stadium.

The first race will start promptly at 5:30 p.m. on May 24.

In a new offering this year, Kent County 4-H’ers will be selling a hotdog meal (chips and a cookie included) for $5. You must include payment with your entry fee.
