WORTON — Kent County eliminated Bo Manor, 7-0, here on Wednesday night to advance to the semifinal round of the Class 1A East Region I boys soccer tournament.
The No. 4-seeded Trojans (6-7) halted a four-match losing streak.
They are headed to top-seeded Perryville (11-0-1) on Saturday for a 3 p.m. start.
On Wednesday, sophomore Sebastien Cousineau scored what held up to be the winning goal in the 21st minute.
Cousineau also had the insurance goal in the 57th minute, and the rout was on.
Five more scores would follow over the next 23 minutes and change — two each from Stewart Hickman and Gabe Parr and a solo tally from Nick Stead.
“We were the better team in the second half and it showed on the scoreboard,” Kent County coach Dennis Hickman said in a telephone interview the next day.
“The first half we looked like we were at the beginning of the season,” coach Hickman said, “but all the things we talked about at halftime — picking your head up, finding your teammates’ feet, doing a better job of changing fields — we started doing. Once we felt a little bit confident, we started pouring it on.”
