Trojans applauded for fair play

WORTON — Kent County High School’s longtime Athletic Director Kevin Taylor, left, and Bayside Conference President Brett Ireland, who also is the AD at Colonel Richardson High School, hold the banner recognizing KCHS for outstanding sportsmanship for the 2023-24 academic year.

The banner arrived Thursday, Nov. 7 and will hang in the KCHS gym.

For at least 15 years, the Bayside Conference Sportsmanship Award has been presented annually to the school or schools that have accumulated the highest ranking in climate, spectators, athletes, coaching and supervision.

For each varsity sport throughout the year, schools submit evaluations ranking their opponents. At the conclusion of the academic year, a Bayside Conference committee compiles the results for each sport to generate a grade for each school.

Kent County High School also earned the conference’s outstanding sportsmanship award in 2018-19.

The Bayside Conference is composed of all 18 public high schools in the eight counties on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, from Kent to Worcester.
