WORTON — The road-weary Trojans, who traveled to Queen Anne’s and then Cambridge-South Dorchester in the span of five days last week, will finally get an opportunity to play in their own stadium Thursday night.
It’ll be homecoming, with a 6 p.m. kickoff against Washington (3-3).
At halftime, the Brigade of Blue marching band will perform and the homecoming queen and king will be crowned.
This is what they call a “short week” for KCHS (0-6), which will have played three games in 11 days.
Mostly underclassman Kent County is expected to dress 16 or 17 players as the roster has been downsized due to injury and other circumstances.
According to head coach Paul Tue, the Trojans were beat up pretty badly in their last two games, literally and figuratively.
What should we expect Thursday night?
“We’re gonna fight,” Tue told The Evening Enterprise in a telephone interview.
“It’s our first home game, and we’d love to see the stands filled with our supporters,” he said.
While acknowledging that it has been a challenging season, Tue asked that the KCHS faithful “give us some grace.”
“They’re guys on this team who are completely still in. They are noticed and their contributions are valued,” Tue said.
Heading that list is junior Thomas Moore, who missed all of last season due to injury but since his return has done just about everything for the Trojans — including playing defensive end, linebacker and running back.
Also gaining high marks from the coaching staff are undersized freshman center Daniel Poore, who just does not quit; freshmen Finn Dierker and Joseph Gonce, the “twin towers” on the offensive and defensive line; junior wide receiver Dylan Hurtt; and senior Jalen Rochester, who plays every down.
