Trojans to host neighbors from QA’s in high school swim meet Jan. 22

CHESTERTOWN — After traveling for three meets in December and again last week, the road-weary Trojans will finally compete in their home pool at the YMCA in Chestertown tomorrow [Thursday, Jan. 22] when they host their neighbors from Queen Anne’s.

The opening gun is at 4 p.m.

The Kent County Family YMCA is located at 200 Scheeler Road.

In a tri-meet Dec. 11, Kent’s boys defeated Cambridge and shorthanded Easton, while Kent’s girls split — defeating Cambridge but losing to Easton. The pool was five lanes, so only one swimmer from each school could score points.

Kent County’s first-place finishers head-to-head against Cambridge were: Brenna Thorpe, 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke; Emi Karlik, 100 breaststroke; Lyric Frase, 50 free; Mary Jane Joiner, 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly; Andy Messick, 200 free and 100 back; Colin Fry, 50 free; Lynden Saunders, 500 free; and Tucker Ervin, 100 free and 100 breaststroke.

Head-to-head winners against Easton were: Joiner, 200 IM; Messick, 100 back; Fry, 50 free; and Saunders, 200 IM and 500 free.

Five days later in another tri-meet, with Stephen Decatur and Cambridge, Stephen Decatur swept Kent, while Kent split with Cambridge with a win in the boys meet. It was a six-lane pool so two swimmers from each team could score points in each event.

Against Decatur, Kent had first-place finishers in Karlik (50 free), Saunders (500 free), Ervin (100 free and 100 breast) and the girls 200 free relay. Scoring second-place points were Messick (100 back), Saunders (200 free) and Joiner (200 free and 100 fly).

Scoring against Cambridge, Kent County had winners in Thorpe (100 back), Joiner (200 free and 100 fly), Jonathan Tedrow (50 free), Saunders (200 and 500 free) and Ervin (100 free and 100 breast), and runners-up in Messick (100 back) and Frase (50 and 100 free).
