NWTF donates turkeys to food pantries in Kent

The Mid-Shore chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation on Nov. 20 donated a total of 20 turkeys to the food pantries in Millington and Rock Hall.

This was a first-time event for the chapter, but the intent is to make it an annual event, according to chapter President Allen Spray.

Other chapter officers include Christopher Davidson, treasurer; and Kim Capel, secretary.

Teddy Capel is the immediate past president.

Among those who participated in the Nov. 20 giveaway were Regan Cole, Allen Spray, Jack Spray, Davidson and his young daughters, Teddy Capel, Kim Capel and Brenda Capel.

A spokesperson for the Mid-Shore chapter of the NWTF said the mission is “to ensure robust wild turkey populations, while benefiting healthy forest, waterways and communities, and championing the American hunting lifestyle.”

The local chapter hosts a banquet every October to raise funds for the 4-H shooting teams; donates archery equipment to area school programs; takes youth on turkey hunts at Eastern Neck National Wildlife Refuge; and provides families in need with turkeys.
