Tynette Christy is Shelter Alliance’s full-time case manager

CHESTERTOWN — The Shelter Alliance has brought on Tynette Christy as a full-time case manager, strengthening its capacity to provide trauma-informed, individualized support to community members experiencing homelessness in Kent County.

Christy has more than a decade of experience in psychology-based services, behavioral health, grief counseling and community outreach.

She holds an associate degree and a Bachelor of Science in psychology from the University of Phoenix, and is a certified grief counselor.

In her role at The Shelter Alliance, Christy will conduct participant intakes and assessments; develop individualized life plans focused on housing stabilization and long-term self-sufficiency; and coordinate services that address housing access, employment pathways, health care and behavioral health needs, and essential documentation.

She will collaborate closely with community partners, service providers and landlords.

Kimrose Goodall, The Shelter Alliance’s executive director, described Christy as “a perfect fit” for the organization.

“Her background in trauma-informed care and psychology is extremely important for the population we serve,” Goodall said about Christy. “Many individuals experiencing homelessness have experienced significant trauma and having a case manager who understands both the clinical and human aspects of that journey strengthens our ability to provide meaningful support and lasting impact.”

Christy currently serves as a grief counselor at Compass Regional Hospice.

Before that she was a psychiatric rehabilitation program supervisor at Community Behavioral Health, where she supervised staff, managed client caseloads, ensured compliance with COMAR regulations and supported program quality improvement.

She’s also been an emotional support counselor servicing the A.F. Whitsitt Center in Chestertown, providing structured support services to individuals navigating behavioral and life challenges.

In addition to her professional experience, Christy has demonstrated a longstanding commitment to justice-involved and at-risk populations. She volunteered as a group facilitator at the Kent County Detention Center and at the J. DeWeese Carter Center [Department of Juvenile Services], leading life skills and behavioral growth groups focused on rehabilitation and reentry.

“Her passion for walking alongside individuals during vulnerable seasons reflects the heart of The Shelter Alliance’s mission,” a news release states.

The Shelter Alliance, a component fund of Mid-Shore Community Foundation, currently operates three core programs: emergency shelter, case management services and The Shelter Closet thrift store.

Since onboarding part-time case management staff in August 2025, The Shelter Alliance has provided more than 270 hours of case management services to individuals in need, according to the news release.

The hiring of a full-time case manager reflects the organization’s growth and commitment to meeting the community’s evolving needs.

The Shelter Alliance continues to build partnerships with community organizations, service providers, employers, landlords and volunteers committed to restoring dignity and stabilizing individuals experiencing homelessness.

Community members and organizations interested in partnering are encouraged to connect with The Shelter Alliance.

The Shelter Alliance welcomes support from the public.

Checks payable to Mid-Shore Community Foundation with the designation “The Shelter Alliance” in the memo line may be mailed to P.O. Box 2, Chestertown, MD 21620.
