Walsh is winner of Women’s League grand raffle

CHESTERTOWN — Laura Walsh of Church Hill is the winner of the Women’s League of Washington College’s grand raffle, a two-night stay at the White Swan Tavern and dinner for two at the Watershed Alley, both in Chestertown. The estimated value of the prize package is $800.

Walsh’s name was drawn by Washington College’s first lady and league member Lori Crane during the scholarship fundraiser luncheon “Chillin’ on the Chester” on May 28 at Chester River Yacht & Country Club.

Proceeds from the raffle and fundraiser support the Helen Gibson Scholarship Fund, the Women’s League Endowment Fund and Miller Library.

Walsh and her husband, an alumnus of Washington College, recently retired to Church Hill.

According to its website, the Women’s League of Washington College was founded in 1951 by Helen S. Gibson, then first lady of the college. She saw the new group as a way to build closer ties between the college and its surrounding community of Chestertown.

Membership in the Women’s League is open to all women who wish to become part of the Washington College community.
