CHESTERTOWN — Freshman midfielder Kaua de Oliveira of Edgartown, Massachusetts pumps his fist after sending a penalty kick into the back of the net Saturday to seal Washington College’s 3-0 victory over visiting Eastern University.
Junior Jordan Waiganjo, assisted by Tucker Sprano, and senior Simone Perin also scored for the locals.
Saturday’s full 90-minute match was the second scrimmage of 2026 for Roy Dunshee’s side, which will open the season Tuesday night, Sept. 1 at home against Salisbury University.
Kent County High School graduate Martin Parrish, the outstanding male athlete in the KCHS Class of 2024, is a co-captain for Salisbury.
Parrish has appeared in 30 matches over two seasons for the Sea Gulls with 12 starts.
At KCHS, he was the three-time team MVP and led the Trojans to their first and only region title in 2021.
Dunshee, who enters his 15th year as Washington’s head coach, returns 23 players from last year’s 6-7-5 campaign. There are seven first-year players.
It will be a War on the Shore soccer twin bill here at Roy Kirby Jr. Stadium on Tuesday when Washington and Salisbury open their respective seasons — the women kicking off at 4 p.m., followed by the men at 7 p.m.
