Washington College ‘commitment’ to making education more affordable

CHESTERTOWN — In a news release Tuesday, Washington College announced its Washington College Tuition Commitment, a new initiative designed to make a “high-quality college education” more affordable and accessible for Maryland students.

Under this initiative, eligible Maryland residents from families with a total household income of $75,000 or less will have their full tuition covered through scholarships and financial aid each academic year they are enrolled at Washington College.

The program is “designed to provide Maryland families with greater certainty about the cost of a college education,” the Sept. 29 news release states.

Currently, 100% of full-time, first-year students receive some form of scholarship and/or financial aid.

The Washington College Tuition Commitment provides eligible students access to the college’s academic programs, personalized experiential learning opportunities, internships, research, close faculty mentorship and supportive campus community while significantly reducing one of the biggest concerns facing families considering college: affordability.

“We want students to choose their college based on where they can thrive academically and personally — not just assume that a private college education is beyond their financial reach,” Washington College’s Vice President for Enrollment Management Johnnie Johnson said in the news release.

Johnson added, “This is an exceptional opportunity that prepares graduates for successful careers and lives of purpose.”
