YMCA is venue for Oct. 17 health and wellness expo

CHESTERTOWN — A health and wellness expo will be held at the Kent County Family YMCA from 3 to 7 p.m, Thursday, Oct. 17.

The YMCA is located at 200 Scheeler Road, Chestertown.

Offerings will include free health screenings; flu and COVID vaccines (bring your insurance cards); more than 50 exhibitors; free refreshments; and entertainment.

The schedule of events includes the following guest speakers:

• 3:30 p.m., Bill Schindler, “Unlock the secrets of ancient nutrition: Boost your health, fitness and well-being.”

Schindler founded and directs the Eastern Shore Food Lab with a mission to preserve and revive ancestral dietary approaches to create a nourishing, ethical and sustainable food system.

He and his wife Christina operate Modern Stone Age Kitchen, a restaurant in Chestertown designed to provide nourishing food created using ancestral approaches maximizing safety, nutrient density and bioavailability to the community.

• 4:30 p.m., Lt. Sean Maloney of the Kent County Sheriff’s Office, “Don’t be a victim! The latest scams, schemes and frauds.”

Maloney is a 2006 graduate of Kent County High School and a 2010 graduate of Washington College. He has been a deputy with the Kent County Sheriff’s Office since 2011 and has been assigned as the supervisor of the Criminal Investigations Division since August of 2023.

• 5:30 p.m.: Aaron Royston, “Rural health care transformation and the importance of partnerships for health and wellness.”

Royston joined the University of Maryland Shore Regional Health in August as the vice president of rural health care transformation and executive director at UM Shore Medical Center at Chestertown.

The Oct. 17 health and wellness expo is organized by HomePorts Inc. in partnership with the Kent County Health Department, University of Maryland Shore Regional Health and the Kent County Family YMCA.
