First snowfall of the season

CHESTERTOWN — Thanks to the fine folks at ELB Incorporated and their snow machine, it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

Trish McGee snapped this photo on Friday night, Nov. 29 during the annual holiday parade in Chestertown.

That’s Ashley Wright, Olivia Leonzio and Lori Willis-Tucker sitting in the ELB sleigh on the back.

Main Street Chestertown and the Downtown Chestertown Association sponsored the parade and the arrival of Santa, who made a grand entrance aboard a Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company truck.

The parade also featured live performances of seasonal music, floats and lots of colorful lights.

After disembarking from the fire truck, Santa visited with children at his house in Fountain Park.

He will return on Saturdays, Dec. 7, Dec. 14 and Dec. 21, from 10 a.m. to noon. Each child will receive a gift bag from Santa, courtesy of Twigs & Teacups.

Fun facts … A white Christmas is defined as 1 inch of snow on the ground on the morning of Dec. 25. It doesn’t have to be snowing on the actual holiday for that to happen, and a trace of snow doesn’t count.

According to The Weather Channel, the average percent chance of a white Christmas in Baltimore is 10%. Since 1905 there have been 15 white Christmases in Baltimore — the last time in 2009 when 6 inches of snow fell.
