HURLOCK — Kent County overcame early foul troubles and limited practice time because of scheduling conflicts and winter weather-related school closings to knock off host North Dorchester, 64-49, in girls basketball Jan. 16.
This was the Trojans’ first and to date only game of the new year.
Jayla Sisco led KCHS with 19 points, all in the second half.
She was joined in double figures by Talicia Wright, Kate Cannon and Love Jackson with 10, 11 and 14 points, respectively.
Saniyah Jones (five points), Jane Cleary (three points) and Sanorra “Star” Parker (two points) made up the balance.
Sisco spent a good part of the first half on the bench with three fouls, including two in the opening minutes of the game.
She finished with four fouls, as did Jackson and Cleary.
Wright ultimately fouled out in the fourth quarter.
North Dorchester went 10-of-27 in free throws.
The Trojans (2-6) built a modest 12-5 lead in the opening frame, but by intermission had fallen behind, 21-18.
Opportunistic North Dorchester put up 16 points in the second quarter. Remedy Wongus scored six of her game-high 21 points over the last eight minutes of the half.
Kent County flipped the script in the third quarter, getting 10 points from Sisco and clutch scoring from Wright, Jackson, Cannon and Cleary to regain the lead, 39-38.
Sisco dropped in nine more points in the fourth quarter, helping to seal the win.
The Trojans, who have not played at home since Dec. 17, are scheduled to host their border rivals from Queen Anne’s on Thursday, Jan. 23. Tip-off is at 4 p.m.
