WORTON — Knocking down a handful of 3-pointers in the first half, Kent County delivered the knockout punch with a 16-5 closing run Friday against outmanned Colonel Richardson in junior varsity boys basketball.
The final score was 57-29.
The Trojans bounced back from a loss the day before at Queen Anne’s to improve to 4-5.
KCHS was led by Dylan Hurtt, who with 25 points almost single-handedly defeated Colonel Richardson.
Hurtt scored 15 points in the first half to stake the home team to a 27-12 lead.
Eight players contributed on the scoreboard for the Trojans, including Peter Sine with seven points, Austin Wilson with six, and Kalief Roberts and De’Andre Sisco each with five.
Kent County led by double digits for the entirety of the second half.
The spread was 17 points, 41-24, after three quarters.
Gabe Parr’s fast-break bucket with 7 minutes, 51 seconds remaining — on the first possession of the final frame — started a run of seven unanswered points that stretched the lead to 48-24 with 6:27 to play.
That’s when coach Irving Christy pulled Hurtt and some of the other starters.
Kent County punctuated its win with 53.2 seconds to play on Sisco’s 3-pointer from well-beyond the arc for the final field goal of the game.
This was a makeup game rescheduled from Jan. 7 because of weather-related school closings, and kicked off a three-game home stand.
KCHS is scheduled to host North Caroline on Tuesday, Jan. 28 and Cambridge the following day. Both games tip off at 4 p.m.
