Rock Hall man suffers fire-related injuries to hands and face

ROCK HALL — A man identified as the property owner suffered burns to both hands and his face while removing a fire-engulfed chair from a shed on Saturday night, March 1.

He was airlifted by a Maryland State Police helicopter to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore, according to a news release from the Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal.

The incident occurred in the 21000-block of Harrington Park Road, Rock Hall.

According to the fire marshal’s office, the man, identified as John Murphy, discovered a chair on fire inside a 12×16-foot shed at 10:22 p.m. He threw the chair outside the shed.

The OSFM has determined that the fire originated inside the shed.

The fire’s cause is under investigation.

Thirty-four firefighters responded to the dispatch and brought the blaze under control in 30 minutes, according to the news release. The Rock Hall Volunteer Fire Company was the primary responder.

The preliminary report put the estimated loss — shed and its contents — at $25,000.
