CHESTERTOWN — Washington College continued its dominance over state rival St. Mary’s in swimming last Saturday.
It was Senior Day here at the Casey Swim Center, making the sweep of the men’s and women’s meets even more meaningful for the locals. Prior to the opening gun on Jan. 24, Lauren Paules, Shane Brace and Connor Kravitz-Yoffee were recognized.
The Shore ladies extended their win streak to 12 meets in a row against the Seahawks, while the Shoremen have now won 13 straight against their in-state rivals.
Washington’s women (4-6) won 12 of the 14 events on the way to a 164-96 victory, and improved to 25-3 all-time in the series.
Brooke Bailey headed the 200-yard butterfly (2:13.33), 200 individual medley (2:14.72) and 200 breaststroke (2:32.92).
Paules led the 500 free (5:34.36) and 1000 free (11:27.14), and led off for the winning 200 free relay.
Five other Shore ladies each won one individual event: Julia Banker, 200 backstroke, 2:18.00; Vanessa Fry, 100 breast, 1:11.43; Mollie Kravitz-Yoffee, 100 back, 1:06.32; Sarah Seale, 50 free, 26.45; and Ellie Seip, 100 free, 59.03.
Washington also had winners in the 200 medley relay as Banker, Fry, Bailey and Seale stopped the clock in 1:56.11 and the 200 free relay of Paules, Seip, Gabby Bonds and Seale who combined for a time of 1:47.29.
With their 158-103 victory, Washington’s men improved to 25-3 all-time against the Seahawks.
They are 3-6 on the season.
Nathan Rawa won the 50-yard freestyle (21.66), 100 butterfly (51.65) and 100 breaststroke (59.13).
Connor Kravitz-Yoffee led the 200 backstroke (2:03.38) and 1,650 free (17:05.84), while Jackson Rooney won the 200 free (1:48.53) and 500 free (4:59.19) and anchored the winning 200 medley relay.
Three Shoremen each won one individual event: Brace, 200 fly, 1:59.09; Mike Lee, 100 free, 48.95; and Gabe Summa, 100 back, 55.00.
Washington won both relays — the 200 free relay of James Hackett, Lee, Niles Commodore and Rawa in 1:27.01 and the 200 medley relay of Summa, Brody Salpeter, Commodore and Rooney in 1:39.26.
What’s next: Washington will host nationally ranked Salisbury tonight [Friday, Jan. 30] in its final home meet of the season.
