WILMINGTON, Del. — Twelve-year-old bowler Abigail Ticknor of Millington is headed back to the Junior Gold Championships after securing her spot at a qualifying tournament at Pleasant Hill Lanes in Wilmington on Dec. 7.
The Junior Gold Championships bring together qualified youth bowlers from across the country each summer for national championships in U12 boys, U12 girls, U14 boys, U14 girls, U16 boys, U16 girls, U18 boys and U18 girls divisions.
The 2026 Junior Gold Championships will be held at 10 bowling centers in the Minneapolis area July 13-18.
Ticknor punched her ticket by finishing third among 14 bowlers in a combined U14 boys and U14 girls category at Pleasant Hill.
She was first among nine U14 bowlers who had not previously qualified this season, securing the first of two available spots to nationals.
Ticknor bowled a total score of 882 across six games on a difficult PBA Bear oil pattern. Her individual game scores were 129, 177, 161, 134, 147 and 134. She moved into position for the first qualifying spot after the third game and never relinquished it.
Ticknor was one of only three girls competing in the U14 division and finished with the highest score among them.
Overall, she trailed only two boys who already had secured their spots to Junior Gold nationals earlier this season.
Ticknor made her Junior Gold Championships debut this past July in Green Bay, Wisconsin, where she finished 51st of 107 entrants in the U12 girls division.
A seventh grader at Kent County Middle School, Ticknor bowls in the varsity division of the Doverama Dragons Youth League in Dover, Delaware.
