After 2-0 week, Trojans look to reach .500 in boys soccer today at ‘home’

WORTON — Kent County carries a two-match winning streak into today’s high school boys soccer match here against North Dorchester, having dominated Cambridge and Mardela on the road last week by a combined score of 13-4.

The Trojans (2-3) have yet to play a true “home” match as the first two matches were played at Washington College while the stadium field at KCHS is undergoing a sprinkler upgrade and they then traveled in succession to Queen Anne’s, Cambridge and Mardela.

Today, Kent County will host North Dorchester on the back field of Worton Park.

It’s a twin bill, with the varsity sides squaring off at 4 p.m., to be followed by the junior varsity contest at about 5:30 p.m.

Junior Fox Ford netted a hat trick to spark the Trojans’ 5-2 victory Friday at Mardela.

Ford, who was playing up front, dented the scoreboard in the 22nd minute off a pass from classmate Gabe Parr.

The home side countered in the 33rd minute for a 1-1 deadlock, before KCHS closed out the half with two goals over the final six and a half minutes.

Parr scored the go-ahead goal in the 34th minute, and then assisted Ford on what would hold up as the winning goal in the 35th minute.

In the second half, the Trojans stretched their lead to 5-1 after another Parr-to-Ford tally in the 48th minute and a Dylan Peralta penalty kick.

Mardela’s other goal, in the 74th minute, came on a PK after KCHS was called for a slide tackle followed by a push in the box.

The match was more one-sided than the final scored might suggest.

“We dominated possession,” KCHS coach Dennis Hickman said in a telephone interview Sunday.

“Mardela pressed really hard offensively, pushing up, which made them vulnerable defensively when we counter-attacked,” the Kent County coach added.

Coach Hickman cleared the bench.

Senior Peter Sine and freshman Jake Stumpf split halves in the goal.

The Trojans picked up their first win of the season Sept. 15 at Cambridge, 8-2, after racing out to a 6-0 halftime lead.

Five different players found the back of the net in the opening 40 minutes, beginning with junior Sebastien Cousineau in the 12th minute.

Ford scored in the 17th and 22nd minutes, followed by Yesner Perez, Jayden Miller and Parr in the span of 6 minutes and 30 seconds to close out the half.

Cambridge scored the first two goals after intermission, closing to 6-2 in the 52nd minute.

Stewart Hickman in the 71st minute and Parr in the 78th minute completed the scoring and restored the Trojans’ six-goal advantage.

The margin of victory could have been larger, but Kent County missed a penalty kick in each half.

Coach Hickman substituted generously, which included several junior varsity call-ups.

Stumpf was the first-half keeper. Sine played the first 10 minutes of the second half and junior John Coleman finished.

In junior varsity action, KCHS played to a 1-1 tie at Queen Anne’s on Sept. 12. Sophomore Owen Sutton scored for the Trojans.

Last Friday, Mardela defeated Kent, 2-0, on a pair of fast-break goals.

Mardela dressed only 11 players, so the match was 9-on-9, i.e.; each side sent out eight field players and a goalie.
