Chestertown man charged with theft of $100K+ from senior citizen

CHESTERTOWN — Police here on Oct. 31 served an arrest warrant charging Thomas Dennis Wall, 77, of Chestertown with obtaining property valued at more than $100,000 from a vulnerable adult.

Wall also is charged with conducting a theft scheme (of more than $100,000) and two counts of forgery of private documents.

He is being held in the Kent County Detention Center without bond.

The victim is identified as a 96-year-old woman.

According to a news release from the Chestertown Police Department, Wall allegedly had been using the victim’s debit card and writing checks on the victim’s bank account.

The alleged offenses date as far back as November 2022 and allegedly continued until September of this year.

The Chestertown Police Department and Kent County Department of Social Services’ Adult Protective Services division jointly investigated the allegations of theft of money from an elderly individual.

Cpl. Chris Schwink of CPD was the lead investigator.

The Kent County Sheriff’s Office and the Office of the Kent County State’s Attorney assisted with the investigation.

Wall was arrested on a Kent County Grand Jury indictment, sending the case directly to circuit court.

An indictment is a formal accusation that has already established probable cause to proceed with the charges. A preliminary hearing in district court is not necessary as the grand jury has made a determination similar to what a preliminary hearing would have decided.

Wall has a pre-trial conference scheduled for Dec. 12 in the Circuit Court for Kent County.

A jury trial has been scheduled tentatively for two days in late March 2026, according to online records of the Maryland Judiciary Case Search.
