HURLOCK — Senior midfielder Ethan Clark scored five goals and six of his Trojan teammates found the back of the net at least once in a 13-1 victory at North Dorchester on Thursday.
The 13 goals represented a season high for the locals, who scored in double digits for the first time this lacrosse season.
They halted a six-game losing streak to move to 2-7.
This is the first year that North Dorchester High School is offering lacrosse as an interscholastic sport.
As a group, the Eagles (0-9) are young and inexperienced, but also tough and well-coached, according to Kent County High School’s head coach Ben Joiner.
Joiner said KCHS stuck to its game plan, which included maintaining possession and creating quality scoring opportunities.
“ND ran a zone so we were able to work on our zone offense, which is especially helpful as we look ahead to this week’s games and even toward the playoffs,” Joiner told The Evening Enterprise in a text message.
Cambridge ran a zone in a 10-3 victory at Kent County on April 14, “and we plan on seeing them again in the postseason,” Joiner said.
In their game at North Dorchester last week, the Trojans’ defense was solid when it needed to be.
Senior David Daniels started in goal and his understudy, sophomore Alex Harris, played the entire second half in between the pipes. The KCHS net-minders were rarely tested and collectively had only a handful of save opportunities.
“We were able to clear the ball effectively,” coach Joiner said.
At the other end of the field, Clark led the way with five goals and one assist. Quinten Joiner (three assists) and Jack Fry (one assist) scored two goals apiece, while Gabe Parr (one assist), Stewart Hickman (one assist), Brett Devary and Colin Fry each contributed one goal. Devary, a senior attackman, scored his first goal as a Trojan.
Parr, a sophomore long-stick middie, scooped up nine ground balls.
Hickman, a junior who is playing high school lacrosse for the first time, won most of the face-offs.
WHAT’S NEXT: KCHS closes out the regular season with three games this week: Wednesday, April 30 at home (5 p.m.) against Wicomico; Thursday, May 1 at Elkton; and Friday, May 2 at home (4 p.m.) against North Caroline.
