Depp, Wilson are 2-time North Bayside champs

CAMBRIDGE — Seniors Rah ‘Zir Wilson and Ke’yare Hawkins and junior Janey Depp have been rewriting KCHS’ track and field record books this outdoor season, quietly and without the kind of fanfare that comes from competing at home since they have traveled for all but one of their meets.

At the North Bayside Conference championships on April 30, hosted by Cambridge-South Dorchester High School, Wilson won the 100 meters and high jump, establishing a meet record of 6 feet, 4 inches in the latter; Depp led the 1600-meter open race in 5 minutes, 40.89 seconds, lowering her own record by 3 seconds, and the 3200 meters; and Hawkins added more than 2 feet to her school record in the discus with a second-place throw of 110 feet, 5 inches.

Depp [800 meters] and senior Pacome Mennetrier [800 meters] also were runners-up.

This was an all-ribbon championship meet for the eight public high schools on the Mid-Shore; the top eight place-finishers in each event were recognized.

Senior RJ Peterson placed second in the 200 meters, was third in the triple jump and anchored the third-place 4×100-meter relay that included Bennett Harris, Wilson and Kiyan Hynson.

Also for Kent County High School, Hawkins placed fourth in the shot put and sophomore Joey Homyack was fourth in the 800 meters in a personal best of 2 minutes, 8.73 seconds.

Placing sixth in individual events were seniors Hynson in the 300-meter hurdles and 400 meters, Kamari Hoxter in the high jump and Delilah Markovic in the 100-meter hurdles.

Rounding out the ribbon winners was sophomore Xavier Johnson, who placed eighth in the long jump with a personal best of 17 feet, 0.5 inches.
