Ghost walks in historic Chestertown promise ‘an evening of intrigue, lantern light and tales that whisper from the past’

CHESTERTOWN — Step into a world of flickering lamplight and Victorian mystery during Dickens of a Christmas weekend with the return of ghost walks in historic downtown Chestertown.

“After a dignified six-year repose, the popular tours rise once more to lead the inquisitive and the intrepid through Chestertown’s twilit streets,” a news release from the Historical Society of Kent County states.

On Friday, Dec. 5, guests will follow a costumed guide with a flickering lantern whose warm glow casts shadows that seem to move of their own accord. Winding through the historic district, including the waterfront, the group will pause on Chestertown’s most storied street corners to hear tales of murder, mayhem and mischief from the past, and the occasional melancholy spirit who can’t be persuaded to rest quietly.

Cost is $20 per person, with up to two youth under the age of 15 free per paying adult.

Tours will depart from the Bordley History Center at 301 High St. at 6:30 p.m., 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Each tour will last about an hour and a half.

Reservations are available at www.kentcountyhistory.org, by calling 410-778-3499 or by emailing director@kentcountyhistory.org.

“Those who delight in a good Victorian yarn, relish a gentle shiver or simply enjoy exploring Chestertown by lantern light will find this promenade through the past promises an evening as charming as it is uncanny,” the news release states.
