KCHS boys halt 3-game losing streak; reach .500 in lacrosse

WORTON PARK– The Trojans ran off the first six goals and ran away with the win, 14-3, Friday against their guests from North Dorchester.

Kent County halted a three-game losing streak to level its record at 3-3.

The Trojans dressed only 13 players — for various reasons including injuries, work commitments and it being spring break — so they all had plenty of playing time.

Among other notables, Peseth Ing made his first start and scored his first goal on a point-blank shot that gave the locals a 5-0 lead.

Austin Cox scored his first goal, too.

This is the first year of high school lacrosse for Ing and Cox

The Trojans led 6-0 on goals from Ing, Gabe Parr with a long pole right off a face-off and Colin Fry.

“The low numbers and the match-up with [second-year program] North Dorchester allowed us to try a few things like mixing up the personnel combinations on face-offs,” KCHS head coach Ben Joiner told The Evening Enterprise

“We knew they would play a zone so we worked hard all week to install an offense to attack a zone, which was new for a lot of the less-experienced players,” Joiner said.

“It was helpful to work on these things in a game situation because we know Cambridge will be playing a similar style of defense.”

Kent will travel to Cambridge [1-3], a regional rival, on Wednesday, April 15.

On defense, Joiner said, the Trojans “played well as a group.”

In a one-sided game such as this, “we can always identify things we could tighten up … just a few fundamental things we can work on to get a little better overall,” Joiner said.

NOTE: Kent County’s next home game is Friday, April 17 at 4 p.m. against Parkside. The game is to be played in Trojan Stadium.
