KCHS grad Ke’yare Hawkins awarded Dixon Scholarship

CHESTERTOWN β€” Salisbury University-bound Ke’yare Hawkins is Kent County High School’s 2026 recipient of the Dixon Group Scholarship.

The scholarship, in the amount of $2,000, is awarded to a graduating high school senior who is pursuing a degree in business, engineering or education.

Hawkins was selected based on her academic accomplishments, essay on how she incorporates the Six Pillars of Character in her daily life and her letters of recommendation.

A member of the Minority Scholars Program and National Honor Society, Hawkins graduated with Distinguished Honors [cumulative grade point average of 3.67 or higher].

Also, she graduated as the school record holder in the indoor shot put, outdoor shot put and outdoor discus.

Salisbury University has recruited the highly decorated Hawkins for its track and field program.

This spring at the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association championships held at Morgan State University, Hawkins placed third in the state in the shot put with a school record of 35 feet, 9 inches β€” bettering her own record of 35-2 set the week before as the East Region winner.

A two-time indoor region champ, Hawkins took the second-place silver medal in the indoor state meet in February with a throw of 36-1.75, adding 10 inches to her previous school record.

At the outdoor state meet in May, Hawkins placed fourth in the discus with a throw of 104 feet, 3 inches.

A month earlier at the North Bayside Conference championships she established the school record of 110-5.
