KCSO continues investigation of Nov. 4 homicide near Chestertown

CHESTERTOWN — The investigation of a homicide earlier this month near Chestertown is “moving forward,” according to a spokesman for the Kent County Sheriff’s Office.

“We’re gathering a lot of information, talking to a lot of people,” Lt. Sean Maloney, commander of the sheriff’s office Criminal Investigation Division, told The Evening Enterprise in a telephone interview Wednesday, Nov. 19.

Maloney said no arrest has been made.

At about 3:35 p.m. on Nov. 4, the sheriff’s office responded to a 911 call about a car stopped in the roadway on Lovers Lane — near the S-bend not far from where Lovers Lane intersects with Quaker Neck Road.

The male driver, subsequently identified as Jermaine Lafel Miles, 50, of Grasonville, was deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.

Miles’ body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy. Investigators are awaiting that report.

Lt. Maloney said a UPS driver making deliveries in the area placed the 911 call.

The sheriff’s office Criminal Investigation Division and the Maryland State Police Crime Scene Unit responded to the scene to begin an investigation.

It appeared that the shooting had “recently happened,” according to Lt. Maloney.

Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to call the Kent County Sheriff’s Office at 410-778-2279 and ask to speak with a detective.

Callers can remain anonymous.
