CHESTERTOWN — As The Shelter Alliance works toward achieving its mission of providing a year-round shelter for community members experiencing homelessness, the nonprofit continues to provide short-term solutions to those in need who seek help.
This week, The Shelter Alliance announced in a news release that it had secured a grant to fund a paid executive director who will be responsible for overseeing both short- and long-term goals. Primary responsibilities will include program management, resource allocation, community outreach, policy development and personnel management.
“In carrying out these responsibilities, efforts should be made to reach out to other local organizations and churches to coordinate services to those in need,” the news release states.
This is a full-time, 12-month position. Customary work hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. While some remote work might be authorized, it is intended that the executive director will work out of office space in Chestertown.
For more information about the executive director’s position — responsibilities as well as qualifications — go to www.mscf.org/shelter.
Applicants are encouraged to submit their credentials by April 18.
According to the news release, The Shelter Alliance has received several grants that have allowed the organization to provide emergency shelter. To date, 62 bed nights have been provided at two local motels for men, women and families.
The organization’s Shelter Closet opened in January in the Kent Plaza Shopping Center as a clothing distribution center for those in need during the winter months. The program has been extended through the end of June. Clothing is free to those in need, while the public also may shop here for a monetary donation.
Hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Donations of clothes will be accepted during this time also.
The Shelter Alliance is a component fund of The Mid-Shore Community Foundation.
