SUDLERSVILLE — Kent County High School graduate Trice Moore is settling in as one of the top shooters on the Shoremen’s trap and skeet team, and he’s less than a month into his collegiate career.
At the 78th Delmarva Open on Sept. 14 at the Sudlersville Skeet Club, Moore won a shoot-off in three posts to take first in E Class. He broke 93 of 100 targets to force the tie.
He also was named Junior champion and collegiate runner-up.Ā
Washington competed in the 12-gauge event.
For the first time, a Shoreman was crowned Delmarva Open champion. Senior Hunter Clark was near-perfect, breaking 99 of 100 clays.
“Everything felt good today and I was really on. I was able to control my mind and just focus on the target so everything was smooth,” Clark said. “I’m looking at the one I missed as a learning experience and a positive training opportunity.”
Freshman Marcus Rosenstiel broke 93 targets to place second in B Class.
Senior Katie Opielski broke 91 of 100 targets to take third in E Class.
Other scorers for Washington were: sophomore Max McNulty, 87; junior Colin Krug, 85; junior Chris Johnson, 80; senior Hartley Meyer, 79; and freshman Gracie Heintzelman, 73.
After competing in the Delmarva, Heintzelman participated in a local trap exhibition where she broke 97 of 100 targets to capture the ladies title and tie for second overall.
NEXT UP for Washington is the Battle of the Bay on Oct. 19 at the Sudlersville Skeet Club.
