ST. MARY’S CITY — St. Mary’s College of Maryland sophomore goalie Sophia Kent of Chesterville gained All-United East Conference honors in field hockey for the second year in a row.
She appeared in 18 games with 17 starts for the 13-6 Seahawks, who advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the third year in a row.
Kent posted an 11-5 record with five solo shutouts, leading the conference in shutouts and in save percentage (82.2). She also ranked second in the conference with a 1.27 goals-against average and third with 5.18 saves per game.
Four times this season she was named the United East Defensive Player of the Week.
Overall, Kent, who prepped at The Gunston School in Centreville, has appeared in 34 career games with 29 starts. Her line includes a 1.33 goals-against average, a save percentage of 80.5 and a 19-9 win-loss record.
She was the United East Rookie of the Year in 2024 when she earned a spot on the all-conference first team.
This fall, St. Mary’s College picked up its third straight conference title (2023 Atlantic East Conference, 2024 and 2025 United East Conference) with a 1-0 double-overtime triumph over Penn State Harrisburg in the United East championship game on Nov. 8.
As conference champs, the Seahawks automatically qualified for the NCAAs. They lost in the opening round at No. 11-ranked Dickinson, 3-1.
