CHESTERTOWN — The Maryland State Police Crash Team is leading the investigations of two fatal crashes Saturday night about 35 minutes apart in Kent and Queen Anne’s counties.
Just before midnight Sept. 20, troopers from the Centreville Barrack responded to the area of state Route 213 and Riley’s Mill Road near Chestertown for a report of a single-vehicle crash.
A passenger in a Ford Fusion, identified as a 17-year-old male from Dover, Delaware was pronounced deceased on the scene, according to a news release from the MSP.
The driver, identified as a 19-year-old female from Magnolia, Delaware, was flown by Maryland State Police helicopter to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland, Baltimore.
In a follow-up Monday, Sept. 22 with Maryland State Police, three other passengers were identified as a 17-year-old male from Dover; a 21-year-old female from Magnolia; and a 23-year-old female from Worton. They were transported by ambulance to the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Chestertown.
The preliminary investigation indicates the Ford Fusion was traveling southbound on Route 213 when for reasons under investigation, traveled onto the right shoulder, struck a utility pole and subsequently overturned.
The crash was reported at about 11:55 p.m.
Route 213 was closed for more than two hours for the crash investigation.
Assistance on the scene was provided by the Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company, Kent County Emergency Medical Services and the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration.
Earlier on Saturday, Sept. 20, at about 11:22 p.m., troopers from the Centreville Barrack responded to the area of northbound U.S. Route 301 at Hayden Clark Road near Centreville for a report of a two-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle.
The operator of the motorcycle, identified as Marcus Dangerfield, 20, of Dover, Delaware, was pronounced deceased on the scene, according to a news release from the Maryland State Police.
The driver of a GMC Acadia, identified as a 45-year-old male, was transported by ambulance to the Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, while the passenger, identified as a 38-year-old female, was airlifted by an MSP helicopter.
The preliminary investigation indicates the GMC Acadia was traveling eastbound on Hayden Clark Road, attempting to cross over northbound Route 301, when, for unknown reasons, was struck by the motorcycle.
Route 301 was closed for more than two hours for the crash investigation.
